PCI Bus "Single IP Module" Carrier Board

The PCIXIP™ board is an intelligent high-speed buffer between a 32-bit Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus and an interchangeable IP Module data acquisition card. One IP module can be installed on the PCIXIP carrier board. The PCIXIP card is a ½ length card residing in a 5V PCI host computer slot. There is one standard 50-pin connector on the back edge of the card used to connect to the target system. The card is fully powered from the PCI slot via the host computer power supply.

Software Support:

The PCIXIP board's operating configuration is entirely software selectable. It can be configured to handle 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit data streams. Operating modes are software selectable and are set by loading the appropriate code into the PCIXIP control registers. The control registers are loaded by firmware with the contents of an on-board PROM after configuration.

The Base Configuration Register is set at power-up according to the user's selected configuration. These settings would not normally be changed during operation.

All communication with the PCIXIP is via registers contained on the PCI bus interface chip (PLX PCI9080). Program control of the PCIXIP is via device registers, which are of three kinds:

  • PCI Configuration Registers define the PCIXIP interface to the PCI bus.
  • PCI Interface Control Registers configure and control data transfers.
  • Local bus registers configure the IP Module interface and perform data and status transfers.
  • Specifications:

      Physical:
    • Board: PCB is .06 inch thick FR-4 flame retardant epoxy glass. Multilayer.
    • Dimensions: Length: 6.95 inches, Height: 4.2 inches.
    • Connectors:
      • PCI bus to Chassis: Standard 5V/32-bit card edge.
      • PCIXIP to External Device: One 50-pin "DB50S" connector on rear edge of board.
    • Cable: The cable harness is customer supplied.
    • Weight: 1.2 pounds.

      Electrical:

    • Power is supplied via the Host chassis backplane. Voltage: +5 VDC, and Current: 1.5 amps.

      Environmental:

    • Temperature: Operating mode: 0 to 55 degrees C and Standby Mode: -40 to +80 degrees.
    • Humidity: Up to 90% RH without condensation.
    • Altitude: 0 to 10,000 feet AMSL operating, and 0 to 40,000 feet AMSL standby.
    • Vibration: Withstands normal transportation stresses.
    • Cooling: Provided by built-in fans in the PC chassis.

      Transfer Rates:

    • IP module - 32Mhz, 8-bit or 16-bit samples.
    • PCI bus - 32 Mhz, 32-bit samples.
